Veronica | Original Team VPA Member, Year Six

We are honored to welcome Veronica back to Team VPA for her sixth year and to celebrate her as one of the original members who helped shape this community from the very beginning.

Veronica has been an athlete for nearly her entire life. Her journey began early, inspired by watching the 1972 Olympics and following in her father’s marathon running footsteps. She started running shortly after, competing through high school and college before finding her stride in marathon running as an adult.

After college, Veronica fully immersed herself in the marathon world, including preparing for multiple Boston Marathon races. Following an over-training stress fracture, she expanded her athletic horizons and discovered swimming and cycling. That discovery opened the door to triathlon, where she became deeply passionate about long-course racing. Over the years, Veronica completed nine full Ironman distance races along with countless half Ironman events, building an impressive endurance résumé grounded in consistency, grit, and love for the process.

At the end of 2014, Veronica stepped away from full and half Ironman racing, but never stepped away from movement. She continues to run and cycle to stay fit, strong, and connected to the sport that has given her so much.

Veronica has been vegan for over eight years. While she was mostly vegetarian for much of her life, she made the full transition to veganism in January 2018 for ethical reasons. She no longer wanted to participate in the pain and suffering of any sentient beings, and describes becoming vegan as the best decision she has ever made, with her only regret being that she did not make the change sooner.

As an original Team VPA member, Veronica represents the heart of this community. A lifelong athlete, an ethical vegan, and a living example that compassion and performance are not only compatible, but deeply connected.

We are incredibly grateful to have you back for another year, Veronica. 🌱💪
