IM Maryland: Swim, Bike, Run and flood crossing ????? Way to conquer it all John @wrenxxx. As an athlete you work on being able to tackle all things thrown at you when you least expect it, if you have not seen the flood pictures floating around go check them out.
Huge congratulations to John for crossing that red carpet with that signature smile and maybe a few choice words😉
"What an interesting day. Let me try to recap this fast.
SWIM: I’m a sub 1:10 swimmer that finished in 1:17 yesterday. Lots of first timers that were either completely terrible at sighting or mad aggressive. I literally watched 3 almost fights breakout mid swim and I myself ran into someone that liked mule kicking anyone that touched him. I swam wide to avoid it on 2nd loop but still not sure how I was 7 min off my mark. Felt good coming out of water though.
BIKE: Didn’t get my sub 6 but had a 3:04 first half and 3:15 second half. Considering strong headwinds in the reserve and having sciatica issues again. I think I performed better than expected. Absolutely fucking nailed my bike nutrition. Felt like I had the energy left to do my interval plan on the run.
RUN: Well. This was certainly something. Had a great 1.5 loop. Stuck mostly to my interval plan. Then the flooding happened and it happened fast. You couldn’t run through it and it zapped my energy every time I had to trudge through it. I don’t even count this towards my PR or anything like that because it’s such an anomaly.
That all said. Ironman #6 and it’s my 3rd fastest overall. So I consider it a success.
