Team VPA Athlete Daniel at TransElkirks Run
Coach D @veganpoweredathlete showed us how to step outside your comfort zone and thrive this past weekend. Check out his write up from his 3 day "adventure" at Revelstoke this past weekend.
"Revelstoke, you took my breath away, literally at times. Thank you, @transelkirksrun, for a memorable experience! Three days, 100k, and 16,500 feet of elevation gain.
I was a bit naïve about what this course and event entailed. This journey started in 2019 when I signed up, but two years
of cancellations due to the pandemic and various life challenges delayed my participation. Finally, I toed the line.
I did not expect to get a true mountain experience. Temperatures peaked at 91° on day one with over 7,000 feet of climbing; it was hard, and I had tears in my eyes from such a tough accomplishment.
A storm moved in for day two, and what looked like light rain turned into a true mountain experience. Temperatures dipped, and we got snow flurries, relentless rain, and really cold conditions while climbing to the top of the mountain and ridge line. It was tough, and I was terrified at times. Again, emotions took over when I finished such a hard day, but I was filled with gratitude for the experience and wouldn’t change a thing!
Day three found us running in the forest with perfect weather. I was surprised at how my body felt. I found joy in running these trails, with the energy of the forest flowing through me. Again I found the finish line emotionally. To think that 10 years ago I didn’t know this endurance world existed and it’s only been 10 years since I ran my first half marathon. It was a great cap to an unforgettable adventure, one I can only describe as spectacular!"
